YO, GETTING THERE!

Posted in the republic at 3:09 pm by chris

Futek, I just read in the papers that our 2nd quarter GDP growth was placed at 7.5%. What a very good news! First quarter was 6.9% and it already created a furor, and now this! There were those who downplayed the 6.9 growth previously because they said, it was election-driven. But how can they explain the surge this quarter?

For those, who will be happy to see this country go down the drain because the leader is someone they abhor. Well, eat your heart out.

HOSTILE TAKEOVER

Posted in money at 6:26 am by chris

This merger between Banco de Oro and EPCIB is giving me a lot of stress recently. Two weeks ago a friend told me that she was notified that her EPCIB account will be replaced by a new Banco de Oro account. I was disturbed because I did not receive any mail from my bank telling me to do the same. When I came to inquire, the snotty girl in EPCIB explained that there is no need for me to do the same. (It irked me that she sound so patronizing.) When I queried further, it appeared that my EPCIB must also go and that this particular branch is still waiting for their system to finally be updated.

Anyway, I will not be ranting about the lady because my concern is with this merger. See, I receive wire transfer from people I work for overseas and bank information, bank details so on and so forth is very important for: 1. certainty that my money will not get lost in the process and 2. speed of the transaction. I could remember once when I had a problem over a remittance because I have not provided a bank swift code. Now, what will happen to the EPCIB swift code? Is it still working? Surely I couldn’t use a Banco de Oro code because my account isn’t under that bank yet.

I have been satisfied with the cost and how my transactions with EPCIB went all this time. Will this new upstart of a bank provide the same service? Like, when money is sent would the process charge more and take more time? Would my clients need to adjust on another payment process?

From what I heard, the whole brouhaha was a hostile takeover. Maybe the whole bank coup is one for the books, but right now what I am concerned about is my involvement in the whole caper. It was my bank that was on the receiving end of the hostility.

Why couldn’t they just mind each other’s businesses anyway?

Nah. So meantime, let’s finish this pirate sweeping quest in the Sea of Marmara.

FX INTERLUDE

Posted in eyecandy at 10:53 am by chris

Sometimes you could just go shaking your head in helpless disgust on how terrible it is to take the public transport especially in this horrible weather. But the thing is, it’s one way of spotting and literally rubbing elbows with gorgeous people and so what’s with enduring a bit of discomfort. Take for instance, yesterday when I took the FX and I sat next to the perfect girl I had not laid eyes on for quite some time: heavenly eyes that peek on two equally heavenly slits, yay! We were cramped in the front seat and thankfully, I took a bath. hehe.

She was dozing on and off and her head would graze my shoulder and each time it did I felt like: with her by my side, I could go against the world… (er, that may be overly too much.) I was really preoccupied with taking her picture without appearing like doing so, otherwise she’d think I am such pervert that I actually am. Anyway, here comes another hottie in sunglasses hailing the car. This one had to take the seat behind us so I have to content myself watching her in the mirror. I almost asked the driver to give up his seat. lol. While we were traversing EspaƱa, the hottie went, in a remarkably husky voice like It came straight from bed:

Manong, bayad po. St. Lukes lang galing Saint Thomas.

St. Thomas? my mind was racing: where in heck was that? Futek, uste lang pala. (UST is reputed to house so much* hotties just like La Salle. Ateneo doesn’t have that kind of reputation, wonder if the Jesuit factor figures in that equation… and UP, well, most of the jologs and activist characters I know comes from there, so…)

Anyway, there goes about 40% of my already divided attention and before I could gather my wits, the China doll was getting off! The upshot was, no pix was ever taken. A pity.

*never mind the count noun rule, coz they’re uncountable.

QUENTIN IN MANILA

Posted in art at 7:15 pm by chris

About this time, you’ll be seeing the poster rounding the malls (the one I saw was in Gateway, if am not mistaken) which talked about a certain Thrilla in Manila. It was actually about Quentin Tarantino dropping by the CineManila International Filmfest come August. I mean, wow. Like, really wow. For once, our baby has invited a real star. We’re getting a bit more attitude right there, ya think?

I heard he’ll be accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award. If you’re really dense and you don’t know about this guy, you go watch Kill Bill and you’ll find his name somewhere in the credits following the title of the Director. (:P)

OT: If names have that thing called X-factor, I think Tarantino is it: Kwen-tin Taran-tee-noe… Sounds like the House Blend, right? Rrrings in the ear. Tsk. Too bad I have tacky for a name. Anyway, while Steven Spielberg sounds like a Jew, Tarantino’s makes you think of cigar and the coolness of a dashing gigolo written all over it.
